First All Thai Ascent Of The Grand Teton

In July of 2015, a team of Thai climbers led by Thai AMGA-certified guide Surachet Kongsingh (Add), ascended the Grand Teton (4,199 meters) in perfect conditions. Joining Add was ex-Thai national team member, Khaetthaleeya Morris (Kat) and Chiang Mai native and Jackson Hole resident Somjai Kamthong (Pui).

The ascent was the culmination of a three month trip by Surachet Kongsingh in which he became certified as a WEMT with WMA and then participated in a climbing guide internship program with the renowned Colorado Mountain School.

Surachet Kongsingh (Add) has become one of the most accomplished guides and climbers in Thailand and is an inspiration to climbers throughout Thailand. Add’s trip to the USA represents a continued progression of rock climbing in Thailand. The Grand Teton is one of the most iconic mountains in the western United States. The Exum Ridge is one of the most classic climbing lines to gain the summit. Check out this video as Add share’s his experience in the US and reflects on the challenges of traveling and climbing on uncharted terrain.

The trip was sponsored by Black Diamond, Sterling Rope, Mad Rock Climbing, Klean Kanteen and Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures Co., Ltd.
